Mold Remediation

Mold Remediation

Mold is a complicated issue. There are five general principles for mold remediation:

1.      Provide for the health and safety of workers and occupants.

2.      Document the conditions and work processes.

3.      Control the contaminant at its source.

4.      Physically remove the contamination (source removal

5.      Correct the moisture problem to prevent recontamination.

So, remediators must be careful to:

1.      Contain the area

2.      Create negative pressure with Air Filtration Devices.

3.      Have an environmental consultant sample, evaluate, and advise

4.      HEPA vacuum and clean all areas with an appropriate detergent

5.      Isolate, remove, and properly dispose of heavily contaminated materials

6.      HEPA vacuum exposed pockets

7.      Use procedures outlined in IICRC S500 to dry

In short, the IICRC S520 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Mold Remediation must be followed.
